Three Critical Affiliate Mistakes to Avoid

Affiliate marketing is known to be one of the easiest businesses around, and if you want to start a successful home business without the typical hassles and risks. It comes with perks that you usually do not find elsewhere when it comes to making money. The greatest perk is that your affiliate franchise can be up and running with little capital investment. Affiliate marketing is a great tool, it can be used to promote any niche including ones that promote solar garden lights among many others.

There are many affiliate marketers out there who do everything right but still don't make any sales. They set up their affiliate marketing website and were able to get plenty of traffic to the site, but are unable to make any kind of profit. Why is this? Did they do something wrong? Usually this means they are making some of the mistakes discussed below that should be avoided if they want to succeed. Even when promoting a in a niche like garden lights, you will want to have a good plan.

Trying To Sell

Do you put every ounce of your effort into creating a sales pitch for your affiliate product? If so, quit it. As strange as it may sound, as an affiliate, you're not supposed to sell. Here is an all-too-common scenario. Suppose a visitor to your site reads your sales pitch, clicks your affiliate link, and then is hit on the very next website with yet another sales pitch. Do you think he/she will want to buy something? Probably not. In order to avoid this very common mistake, you have to pre-sell the affiliate product on your site, not sell it. Remember, your job as an affiliate marketer is not to sell the product but to entice a visitor to click through to the real sales page. Your site should recommend things rather than try to sell them, you want to offer enough content to maintain the attention of each visitor, but not seem like an advertising page, more a source of information giving customers the right advice for the right products. Then they click the link and are taken to the sales page.

Know Your Market

Would a nomad who lives and wanders in a desert likely buy a woolen sweater? Yes, many of these products are safe and useful, but they go against the animal rights activist's believes. This illustrates the importance of not only knowing your product but also understanding the market you are targeting and what types of products will sell to that market. If your market is teenagers, you would be wasting your time trying to sell them homeowners insurance. However, selling them products such as fashion accessories will be easier and far more lucrative. Competition is always a factor you must consider even in a niche such as solar lights you may face competitors who are promoting other types of lighting.

Choosing Multiple Affiliate Programs

The basis of your affiliate marketing foundation is built upon your patience, perseverance and ability to focus. However, if you are trying to promote too many affiliate products and join too many affiliate programs, you tend to lose focus. By picking so many products to promote, you've make your own job too difficult, as you'll be unable to truly focus on any one product and give it the attention it deserves. By choosing this route, you're destroying the earning potential of the affiliate products that you are marketing, which will directly impact the amount of revenue that you make-you definitely won't be making as much as you think you will.
